The son of Thomas Wright Bacot (1795-1851) and Harriett Susannah Wainwright, Robert Dewar Bacot was president of the Phoenix Fire Engine Company, a volunteer firefighting company, and captain of the Phoenix Rifles, a volunteer militia unit raised just before the outbreak of the Civil War.
